Long gone are the days when the only places to get married were hotel ballrooms or your parents’ house. Calgary has lots of hidden gems for discerning brides and grooms, from elegant restaurants and funky converted spaces to restaurants in heritage buildings and luscious natural settings.

Here are just a few of the great local wedding venues around town:

The Commons Calgary

Perhaps better known for hosting business meetings and events, The Commons has open-concept options for wedding ceremonies up to 155 guests (or you can contact them directly for bigger events) in their heritage building. Their Parlour room could be the perfect vibe for a cocktail party-inspired wedding, while their Hemingway Room, with its exposed brick and open space, is a rich backdrop for a myriad of styles.

The Commons offers additional event services, including event planning and styling, graphic design and catering.

Deane House

The newly restored Deane House sits at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers in downtown Calgary, offering both outdoor and indoor settings for a wedding ceremony and reception or dinner. Inside the heritage building is comfortable and elegant, with elegant, homey touches like the framed paintings on the walls, fresh flowers, and old books lining shelves.

Their indoor event spaces provide options for seated meals no matter the weather, while garden space in view of the rivers allows for bigger parties to soak up the sun during an outdoor wedding.

River Café

The rustic and romantic River Café, like its sister restaurant the Deane House, thrives in it’s natural setting downtown in Prince’s Island Park. The River Café can accommodate parties of 90 for seated meals, or up to 140 for standing receptions. The menu is local and Canadian, just like the garden that surrounds the restaurant.
